Henry and Cole were paid a total of $3690 for a job they did. Cole was paid $1410 less than Henry.

1. How much was Cole paid for the job?
2. Henry and Cole were paid based on the number of days they worked. Henry worked 2 times as many days as Cole. Henry was paid $15 more than Cole per day. How many days did Henry work?

Amount that Cole was paid = 1 u
Amount that Henry was paid = 1 u + 1410

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1410
= 2 u + 1410

2 u + 1410 = 3690
2 u = 3690 - 1410
2 u = 2280

1 u = 2280 ÷ 2 = 1140

Amount that Cole was paid
= 1 u
= $1140

(b)
Amount that Henry was paid
= 1 u + 1410
= 1140 + 1410
= $2550

Henry worked 2 times as many days as Cole.

2 sets of Henry's salary = $2550

1 set of Henry's salary
= 2550 ÷ 2
= $1275

1 set of Cole's salary = $1140

Difference between each set of Henry's and Cole's salaries
= 1275 - 1140
= $135

Number of days in 1 set
= 135 ÷ 15
= 9

Number of days that Henry worked
= 2 x 9
= 18
