Vaidev and John were paid a total of $1760 for a job they did. Vaidev was paid $1240 more than John.

1. How much was John paid for the job?
2. Vaidev and John were paid based on the number of days they worked. Vaidev worked 3 times as many days as John. John was paid $12 less than Vaidev per day. How many days did Vaidev work?

Amount that John was paid = 1 u
Amount that Vaidev was paid = 1 u + 1240

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1240
= 2 u + 1240

2 u + 1240 = 1760
2 u = 1760 - 1240
2 u = 520

1 u = 520 ÷ 2 = 260

Amount that John was paid
= 1 u
= $260

(b)
Amount that Vaidev was paid
= 1 u + 1240
= 260 + 1240
= $1500

Vaidev worked 3 times as many days as John.

3 sets of Vaidev's salary = $1500

1 set of Vaidev's salary
= 1500 ÷ 3
= $500

1 set of John's salary = $260

Difference between each set of Vaidev's and John's salaries
= 500 - 260
= $240

Number of days in 1 set
= 240 ÷ 12
= 20

Number of days that Vaidev worked
= 3 x 20
= 60
