Rael and Cody were paid a total of $1880 for a job they did. Rael was paid $1420 more than Cody.

1. How much was Cody paid for the job?
2. Rael and Cody were paid based on the number of days they worked. Rael worked 5 times as many days as Cody. Cody was paid $10 less than Rael per day. How many days did Rael work?

Amount that Cody was paid = 1 u
Amount that Rael was paid = 1 u + 1420

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1420
= 2 u + 1420

2 u + 1420 = 1880
2 u = 1880 - 1420
2 u = 460

1 u = 460 ÷ 2 = 230

Amount that Cody was paid
= 1 u
= $230

(b)
Amount that Rael was paid
= 1 u + 1420
= 230 + 1420
= $1650

Rael worked 5 times as many days as Cody.

5 sets of Rael's salary = $1650

1 set of Rael's salary
= 1650 ÷ 5
= $330

1 set of Cody's salary = $230

Difference between each set of Rael's and Cody's salaries
= 330 - 230
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 10
= 10

Number of days that Rael worked
= 5 x 10
= 50
