Sean and Elijah were paid a total of $1670 for a job they did. Elijah was paid $1610 less than Sean.

2. Sean and Elijah were paid based on the number of days they worked. Sean worked 4 times as many days as Elijah. Sean was paid $20 more than Elijah per day. How many days did Sean work?

Amount that Elijah was paid = 1 u
Amount that Sean was paid = 1 u + 1610

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1610
= 2 u + 1610

2 u + 1610 = 1670
2 u = 1670 - 1610
2 u = 60

1 u = 60 ÷ 2 = 30

Amount that Elijah was paid
= 1 u
= $30

(b)
Amount that Sean was paid
= 1 u + 1610
= 30 + 1610
= $1640

Sean worked 4 times as many days as Elijah.

4 sets of Sean's salary = $1640

1 set of Sean's salary
= 1640 ÷ 4
= $410

1 set of Elijah's salary = $30

Difference between each set of Sean's and Elijah's salaries
= 410 - 30
= $380

Number of days in 1 set
= 380 ÷ 20
= 19

Number of days that Sean worked
= 4 x 19
= 76
