Will and Warren were paid a total of $4040 for a job they did. Will was paid $1420 more than Warren.

1. How much was Warren paid for the job?
2. Will and Warren were paid based on the number of days they worked. Will worked 2 times as many days as Warren. Warren was paid $5 less than Will per day. How many days did Will work?

Amount that Warren was paid = 1 u
Amount that Will was paid = 1 u + 1420

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1420
= 2 u + 1420

2 u + 1420 = 4040
2 u = 4040 - 1420
2 u = 2620

1 u = 2620 ÷ 2 = 1310

Amount that Warren was paid
= 1 u
= $1310

(b)
Amount that Will was paid
= 1 u + 1420
= 1310 + 1420
= $2730

Will worked 2 times as many days as Warren.

2 sets of Will's salary = $2730

1 set of Will's salary
= 2730 ÷ 2
= $1365

1 set of Warren's salary = $1310

Difference between each set of Will's and Warren's salaries
= 1365 - 1310
= $55

Number of days in 1 set
= 55 ÷ 5
= 11

Number of days that Will worked
= 2 x 11
= 22
