Ahmad and Neave were paid a total of $2640 for a job they did. Neave was paid $1820 less than Ahmad.

1. How much was Neave paid for the job?
2. Ahmad and Neave were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ahmad worked 5 times as many days as Neave. Ahmad was paid $4 more than Neave per day. How many days did Ahmad work?

Amount that Neave was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ahmad was paid = 1 u + 1820

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1820
= 2 u + 1820

2 u + 1820 = 2640
2 u = 2640 - 1820
2 u = 820

1 u = 820 ÷ 2 = 410

Amount that Neave was paid
= 1 u
= $410

(b)
Amount that Ahmad was paid
= 1 u + 1820
= 410 + 1820
= $2230

Ahmad worked 5 times as many days as Neave.

5 sets of Ahmad's salary = $2230

1 set of Ahmad's salary
= 2230 ÷ 5
= $446

1 set of Neave's salary = $410

Difference between each set of Ahmad's and Neave's salaries
= 446 - 410
= $36

Number of days in 1 set
= 36 ÷ 4
= 9

Number of days that Ahmad worked
= 5 x 9
= 45
