Ahmad and Owen were paid a total of $4010 for a job they did. Owen was paid $1370 less than Ahmad.

1. How much was Owen paid for the job?
2. Ahmad and Owen were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ahmad worked 2 times as many days as Owen. Ahmad was paid $5 more than Owen per day. How many days did Ahmad work?

Amount that Owen was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ahmad was paid = 1 u + 1370

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1370
= 2 u + 1370

2 u + 1370 = 4010
2 u = 4010 - 1370
2 u = 2640

1 u = 2640 ÷ 2 = 1320

Amount that Owen was paid
= 1 u
= $1320

(b)
Amount that Ahmad was paid
= 1 u + 1370
= 1320 + 1370
= $2690

Ahmad worked 2 times as many days as Owen.

2 sets of Ahmad's salary = $2690

1 set of Ahmad's salary
= 2690 ÷ 2
= $1345

1 set of Owen's salary = $1320

Difference between each set of Ahmad's and Owen's salaries
= 1345 - 1320
= $25

Number of days in 1 set
= 25 ÷ 5
= 5

Number of days that Ahmad worked
= 2 x 5
= 10
