Owen and Sean were paid a total of $4470 for a job they did. Sean was paid $1670 less than Owen.

1. How much was Sean paid for the job?
2. Owen and Sean were paid based on the number of days they worked. Owen worked 2 times as many days as Sean. Owen was paid $15 more than Sean per day. How many days did Owen work?

Amount that Sean was paid = 1 u
Amount that Owen was paid = 1 u + 1670

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1670
= 2 u + 1670

2 u + 1670 = 4470
2 u = 4470 - 1670
2 u = 2800

1 u = 2800 ÷ 2 = 1400

Amount that Sean was paid
= 1 u
= $1400

(b)
Amount that Owen was paid
= 1 u + 1670
= 1400 + 1670
= $3070

Owen worked 2 times as many days as Sean.

2 sets of Owen's salary = $3070

1 set of Owen's salary
= 3070 ÷ 2
= $1535

1 set of Sean's salary = $1400

Difference between each set of Owen's and Sean's salaries
= 1535 - 1400
= $135

Number of days in 1 set
= 135 ÷ 15
= 9

Number of days that Owen worked
= 2 x 9
= 18
