Zeph and Seth were paid a total of $1690 for a job they did. Zeph was paid $1340 more than Seth.

1. How much was Seth paid for the job?
2. Zeph and Seth were paid based on the number of days they worked. Zeph worked 5 times as many days as Seth. Seth was paid $8 less than Zeph per day. How many days did Zeph work?

Amount that Seth was paid = 1 u
Amount that Zeph was paid = 1 u + 1340

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1340
= 2 u + 1340

2 u + 1340 = 1690
2 u = 1690 - 1340
2 u = 350

1 u = 350 ÷ 2 = 175

Amount that Seth was paid
= 1 u
= $175

(b)
Amount that Zeph was paid
= 1 u + 1340
= 175 + 1340
= $1515

Zeph worked 5 times as many days as Seth.

5 sets of Zeph's salary = $1515

1 set of Zeph's salary
= 1515 ÷ 5
= $303

1 set of Seth's salary = $175

Difference between each set of Zeph's and Seth's salaries
= 303 - 175
= $128

Number of days in 1 set
= 128 ÷ 8
= 16

Number of days that Zeph worked
= 5 x 16
= 80
