Ryan and Will were paid a total of $2050 for a job they did. Ryan was paid $1160 more than Will.

1. How much was Will paid for the job?
2. Ryan and Will were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ryan worked 3 times as many days as Will. Will was paid $5 less than Ryan per day. How many days did Ryan work?

Amount that Will was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ryan was paid = 1 u + 1160

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1160
= 2 u + 1160

2 u + 1160 = 2050
2 u = 2050 - 1160
2 u = 890

1 u = 890 ÷ 2 = 445

Amount that Will was paid
= 1 u
= $445

(b)
Amount that Ryan was paid
= 1 u + 1160
= 445 + 1160
= $1605

Ryan worked 3 times as many days as Will.

3 sets of Ryan's salary = $1605

1 set of Ryan's salary
= 1605 ÷ 3
= $535

1 set of Will's salary = $445

Difference between each set of Ryan's and Will's salaries
= 535 - 445
= $90

Number of days in 1 set
= 90 ÷ 5
= 18

Number of days that Ryan worked
= 3 x 18
= 54
