2. Julian and Vincent were paid based on the number of days they worked. Julian worked 2 times as many days as Vincent. Julian was paid $12 more than Vincent per day. How many days did Julian work?

Amount that Vincent was paid = 1 u
Amount that Julian was paid = 1 u + 1780

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1780
= 2 u + 1780

2 u + 1780 = 4620
2 u = 4620 - 1780
2 u = 2840

1 u = 2840 ÷ 2 = 1420

Amount that Vincent was paid
= 1 u
= $1420

(b)
Amount that Julian was paid
= 1 u + 1780
= 1420 + 1780
= $3200

Julian worked 2 times as many days as Vincent.

2 sets of Julian's salary = $3200

1 set of Julian's salary
= 3200 ÷ 2
= $1600

1 set of Vincent's salary = $1420

Difference between each set of Julian's and Vincent's salaries
= 1600 - 1420
= $180

Number of days in 1 set
= 180 ÷ 12
= 15

Number of days that Julian worked
= 2 x 15
= 30
