Sam and Cody were paid a total of $3130 for a job they did. Sam was paid $1760 more than Cody.

1. How much was Cody paid for the job?
2. Sam and Cody were paid based on the number of days they worked. Sam worked 3 times as many days as Cody. Cody was paid $10 less than Sam per day. How many days did Sam work?

Amount that Cody was paid = 1 u
Amount that Sam was paid = 1 u + 1760

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1760
= 2 u + 1760

2 u + 1760 = 3130
2 u = 3130 - 1760
2 u = 1370

1 u = 1370 ÷ 2 = 685

Amount that Cody was paid
= 1 u
= $685

(b)
Amount that Sam was paid
= 1 u + 1760
= 685 + 1760
= $2445

Sam worked 3 times as many days as Cody.

3 sets of Sam's salary = $2445

1 set of Sam's salary
= 2445 ÷ 3
= $815

1 set of Cody's salary = $685

Difference between each set of Sam's and Cody's salaries
= 815 - 685
= $130

Number of days in 1 set
= 130 ÷ 10
= 13

Number of days that Sam worked
= 3 x 13
= 39
