Simon and Cody were paid a total of $2930 for a job they did. Simon was paid $1600 more than Cody.

1. How much was Cody paid for the job?
2. Simon and Cody were paid based on the number of days they worked. Simon worked 3 times as many days as Cody. Cody was paid $15 less than Simon per day. How many days did Simon work?

Amount that Cody was paid = 1 u
Amount that Simon was paid = 1 u + 1600

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1600
= 2 u + 1600

2 u + 1600 = 2930
2 u = 2930 - 1600
2 u = 1330

1 u = 1330 ÷ 2 = 665

Amount that Cody was paid
= 1 u
= $665

(b)
Amount that Simon was paid
= 1 u + 1600
= 665 + 1600
= $2265

Simon worked 3 times as many days as Cody.

3 sets of Simon's salary = $2265

1 set of Simon's salary
= 2265 ÷ 3
= $755

1 set of Cody's salary = $665

Difference between each set of Simon's and Cody's salaries
= 755 - 665
= $90

Number of days in 1 set
= 90 ÷ 15
= 6

Number of days that Simon worked
= 3 x 6
= 18
