Jack and Liam were paid a total of $4300 for a job they did. Jack was paid $1700 more than Liam.

1. How much was Liam paid for the job?
2. Jack and Liam were paid based on the number of days they worked. Jack worked 2 times as many days as Liam. Liam was paid $25 less than Jack per day. How many days did Jack work? 

(a)
Amount that Liam was paid = 1 u
Amount that Jack was paid = 1 u + 1700

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1700
= 2 u + 1700

2 u + 1700 = 4300
2 u = 4300 - 1700
2 u = 2600

1 u = 2600 ÷ 2 = 1300

Amount that Liam was paid
= 1 u
= $1300

(b)
Amount that Jack was paid
= 1 u + 1700
= 1300 + 1700
= $3000

Jack worked 2 times as many days as Liam.

2 sets of Jack's salary = $3000

1 set of Jack's salary
= 3000 ÷ 2
= $1500

1 set of Liam's salary = $1300

Difference between each set of Jack's and Liam's salaries
= 1500 - 1300
= $200

Number of days in 1 set
= 200 ÷ 25
= 8

Number of days that Jack worked
= 2 x 8
= 16
