Howard and Wesley were paid a total of $2700 for a job they did. Wesley was paid $1880 less than Howard.

2. Howard and Wesley were paid based on the number of days they worked. Howard worked 5 times as many days as Wesley. Howard was paid $12 more than Wesley per day. How many days did Howard work?

Amount that Wesley was paid = 1 u
Amount that Howard was paid = 1 u + 1880

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1880
= 2 u + 1880

2 u + 1880 = 2700
2 u = 2700 - 1880
2 u = 820

1 u = 820 ÷ 2 = 410

Amount that Wesley was paid
= 1 u
= $410

(b)
Amount that Howard was paid
= 1 u + 1880
= 410 + 1880
= $2290

Howard worked 5 times as many days as Wesley.

5 sets of Howard's salary = $2290

1 set of Howard's salary
= 2290 ÷ 5
= $458

1 set of Wesley's salary = $410

Difference between each set of Howard's and Wesley's salaries
= 458 - 410
= $48

Number of days in 1 set
= 48 ÷ 12
= 4

Number of days that Howard worked
= 5 x 4
= 20
