Luke and Ahmad were paid a total of $2180 for a job they did. Luke was paid $1570 more than Ahmad.

2. Luke and Ahmad were paid based on the number of days they worked. Luke worked 5 times as many days as Ahmad. Ahmad was paid $5 less than Luke per day. How many days did Luke work?

Amount that Ahmad was paid = 1 u
Amount that Luke was paid = 1 u + 1570

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1570
= 2 u + 1570

2 u + 1570 = 2180
2 u = 2180 - 1570
2 u = 610

1 u = 610 ÷ 2 = 305

Amount that Ahmad was paid
= 1 u
= $305

(b)
Amount that Luke was paid
= 1 u + 1570
= 305 + 1570
= $1875

Luke worked 5 times as many days as Ahmad.

5 sets of Luke's salary = $1875

1 set of Luke's salary
= 1875 ÷ 5
= $375

1 set of Ahmad's salary = $305

Difference between each set of Luke's and Ahmad's salaries
= 375 - 305
= $70

Number of days in 1 set
= 70 ÷ 5
= 14

Number of days that Luke worked
= 5 x 14
= 70
