Vincent and Ian were paid a total of $2680 for a job they did. Ian was paid $1790 less than Vincent.

1. How much was Ian paid for the job?
2. Vincent and Ian were paid based on the number of days they worked. Vincent worked 3 times as many days as Ian. Vincent was paid $20 more than Ian per day. How many days did Vincent work?

Amount that Ian was paid = 1 u
Amount that Vincent was paid = 1 u + 1790

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1790
= 2 u + 1790

2 u + 1790 = 2680
2 u = 2680 - 1790
2 u = 890

1 u = 890 ÷ 2 = 445

Amount that Ian was paid
= 1 u
= $445

(b)
Amount that Vincent was paid
= 1 u + 1790
= 445 + 1790
= $2235

Vincent worked 3 times as many days as Ian.

3 sets of Vincent's salary = $2235

1 set of Vincent's salary
= 2235 ÷ 3
= $745

1 set of Ian's salary = $445

Difference between each set of Vincent's and Ian's salaries
= 745 - 445
= $300

Number of days in 1 set
= 300 ÷ 20
= 15

Number of days that Vincent worked
= 3 x 15
= 45
