Peter and Harry were paid a total of $4450 for a job they did. Peter was paid $1710 more than Harry.

1. How much was Harry paid for the job?
2. Peter and Harry were paid based on the number of days they worked. Peter worked 2 times as many days as Harry. Harry was paid $10 less than Peter per day. How many days did Peter work?

Amount that Harry was paid = 1 u
Amount that Peter was paid = 1 u + 1710

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1710
= 2 u + 1710

2 u + 1710 = 4450
2 u = 4450 - 1710
2 u = 2740

1 u = 2740 ÷ 2 = 1370

Amount that Harry was paid
= 1 u
= $1370

(b)
Amount that Peter was paid
= 1 u + 1710
= 1370 + 1710
= $3080

Peter worked 2 times as many days as Harry.

2 sets of Peter's salary = $3080

1 set of Peter's salary
= 3080 ÷ 2
= $1540

1 set of Harry's salary = $1370

Difference between each set of Peter's and Harry's salaries
= 1540 - 1370
= $170

Number of days in 1 set
= 170 ÷ 10
= 17

Number of days that Peter worked
= 2 x 17
= 34
