Gabriel and Michael were paid a total of $4170 for a job they did. Michael was paid $1690 less than Gabriel.

2. Gabriel and Michael were paid based on the number of days they worked. Gabriel worked 2 times as many days as Michael. Gabriel was paid $25 more than Michael per day. How many days did Gabriel work?

Amount that Michael was paid = 1 u
Amount that Gabriel was paid = 1 u + 1690

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1690
= 2 u + 1690

2 u + 1690 = 4170
2 u = 4170 - 1690
2 u = 2480

1 u = 2480 ÷ 2 = 1240

Amount that Michael was paid
= 1 u
= $1240

(b)
Amount that Gabriel was paid
= 1 u + 1690
= 1240 + 1690
= $2930

Gabriel worked 2 times as many days as Michael.

2 sets of Gabriel's salary = $2930

1 set of Gabriel's salary
= 2930 ÷ 2
= $1465

1 set of Michael's salary = $1240

Difference between each set of Gabriel's and Michael's salaries
= 1465 - 1240
= $225

Number of days in 1 set
= 225 ÷ 25
= 9

Number of days that Gabriel worked
= 2 x 9
= 18
