Oscar and Tim were paid a total of $2610 for a job they did. Tim was paid $1840 less than Oscar.

1. How much was Tim paid for the job?
2. Oscar and Tim were paid based on the number of days they worked. Oscar worked 5 times as many days as Tim. Oscar was paid $20 more than Tim per day. How many days did Oscar work?

Amount that Tim was paid = 1 u
Amount that Oscar was paid = 1 u + 1840

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1840
= 2 u + 1840

2 u + 1840 = 2610
2 u = 2610 - 1840
2 u = 770

1 u = 770 ÷ 2 = 385

Amount that Tim was paid
= 1 u
= $385

(b)
Amount that Oscar was paid
= 1 u + 1840
= 385 + 1840
= $2225

Oscar worked 5 times as many days as Tim.

5 sets of Oscar's salary = $2225

1 set of Oscar's salary
= 2225 ÷ 5
= $445

1 set of Tim's salary = $385

Difference between each set of Oscar's and Tim's salaries
= 445 - 385
= $60

Number of days in 1 set
= 60 ÷ 20
= 3

Number of days that Oscar worked
= 5 x 3
= 15
