Seth and Liam were paid a total of $1540 for a job they did. Seth was paid $1180 more than Liam.

1. How much was Liam paid for the job?
2. Seth and Liam were paid based on the number of days they worked. Seth worked 2 times as many days as Liam. Liam was paid $25 less than Seth per day. How many days did Seth work?

Amount that Liam was paid = 1 u
Amount that Seth was paid = 1 u + 1180

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1180
= 2 u + 1180

2 u + 1180 = 1540
2 u = 1540 - 1180
2 u = 360

1 u = 360 ÷ 2 = 180

Amount that Liam was paid
= 1 u
= $180

(b)
Amount that Seth was paid
= 1 u + 1180
= 180 + 1180
= $1360

Seth worked 2 times as many days as Liam.

2 sets of Seth's salary = $1360

1 set of Seth's salary
= 1360 ÷ 2
= $680

1 set of Liam's salary = $180

Difference between each set of Seth's and Liam's salaries
= 680 - 180
= $500

Number of days in 1 set
= 500 ÷ 25
= 20

Number of days that Seth worked
= 2 x 20
= 40
