Eric and Wesley were paid a total of $3560 for a job they did. Wesley was paid $1320 less than Eric.

1. How much was Wesley paid for the job?
2. Eric and Wesley were paid based on the number of days they worked. Eric worked 2 times as many days as Wesley. Eric was paid $10 more than Wesley per day. How many days did Eric work?

Amount that Wesley was paid = 1 u
Amount that Eric was paid = 1 u + 1320

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1320
= 2 u + 1320

2 u + 1320 = 3560
2 u = 3560 - 1320
2 u = 2240

1 u = 2240 ÷ 2 = 1120

Amount that Wesley was paid
= 1 u
= $1120

(b)
Amount that Eric was paid
= 1 u + 1320
= 1120 + 1320
= $2440

Eric worked 2 times as many days as Wesley.

2 sets of Eric's salary = $2440

1 set of Eric's salary
= 2440 ÷ 2
= $1220

1 set of Wesley's salary = $1120

Difference between each set of Eric's and Wesley's salaries
= 1220 - 1120
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 10
= 10

Number of days that Eric worked
= 2 x 10
= 20
