Ethan and Caden were paid a total of $1770 for a job they did. Caden was paid $1380 less than Ethan.

1. How much was Caden paid for the job?
2. Ethan and Caden were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ethan worked 5 times as many days as Caden. Ethan was paid $8 more than Caden per day. How many days did Ethan work?

Amount that Caden was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ethan was paid = 1 u + 1380

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1380
= 2 u + 1380

2 u + 1380 = 1770
2 u = 1770 - 1380
2 u = 390

1 u = 390 ÷ 2 = 195

Amount that Caden was paid
= 1 u
= $195

(b)
Amount that Ethan was paid
= 1 u + 1380
= 195 + 1380
= $1575

Ethan worked 5 times as many days as Caden.

5 sets of Ethan's salary = $1575

1 set of Ethan's salary
= 1575 ÷ 5
= $315

1 set of Caden's salary = $195

Difference between each set of Ethan's and Caden's salaries
= 315 - 195
= $120

Number of days in 1 set
= 120 ÷ 8
= 15

Number of days that Ethan worked
= 5 x 15
= 75
