Andy and Dylan were paid a total of $2500 for a job they did. Dylan was paid $1310 less than Andy.

1. How much was Dylan paid for the job?
2. Andy and Dylan were paid based on the number of days they worked. Andy worked 3 times as many days as Dylan. Andy was paid $5 more than Dylan per day. How many days did Andy work?

Amount that Dylan was paid = 1 u
Amount that Andy was paid = 1 u + 1310

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1310
= 2 u + 1310

2 u + 1310 = 2500
2 u = 2500 - 1310
2 u = 1190

1 u = 1190 ÷ 2 = 595

Amount that Dylan was paid
= 1 u
= $595

(b)
Amount that Andy was paid
= 1 u + 1310
= 595 + 1310
= $1905

Andy worked 3 times as many days as Dylan.

3 sets of Andy's salary = $1905

1 set of Andy's salary
= 1905 ÷ 3
= $635

1 set of Dylan's salary = $595

Difference between each set of Andy's and Dylan's salaries
= 635 - 595
= $40

Number of days in 1 set
= 40 ÷ 5
= 8

Number of days that Andy worked
= 3 x 8
= 24
