Bobby and Tim were paid a total of $1730 for a job they did. Bobby was paid $1110 more than Tim.

1. How much was Tim paid for the job?
2. Bobby and Tim were paid based on the number of days they worked. Bobby worked 2 times as many days as Tim. Tim was paid $20 less than Bobby per day. How many days did Bobby work?

Amount that Tim was paid = 1 u
Amount that Bobby was paid = 1 u + 1110

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1110
= 2 u + 1110

2 u + 1110 = 1730
2 u = 1730 - 1110
2 u = 620

1 u = 620 ÷ 2 = 310

Amount that Tim was paid
= 1 u
= $310

(b)
Amount that Bobby was paid
= 1 u + 1110
= 310 + 1110
= $1420

Bobby worked 2 times as many days as Tim.

2 sets of Bobby's salary = $1420

1 set of Bobby's salary
= 1420 ÷ 2
= $710

1 set of Tim's salary = $310

Difference between each set of Bobby's and Tim's salaries
= 710 - 310
= $400

Number of days in 1 set
= 400 ÷ 20
= 20

Number of days that Bobby worked
= 2 x 20
= 40
