Ethan and Tim were paid a total of $2680 for a job they did. Tim was paid $1460 less than Ethan.

1. How much was Tim paid for the job?
2. Ethan and Tim were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ethan worked 2 times as many days as Tim. Ethan was paid $25 more than Tim per day. How many days did Ethan work?

Amount that Tim was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ethan was paid = 1 u + 1460

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1460
= 2 u + 1460

2 u + 1460 = 2680
2 u = 2680 - 1460
2 u = 1220

1 u = 1220 ÷ 2 = 610

Amount that Tim was paid
= 1 u
= $610

(b)
Amount that Ethan was paid
= 1 u + 1460
= 610 + 1460
= $2070

Ethan worked 2 times as many days as Tim.

2 sets of Ethan's salary = $2070

1 set of Ethan's salary
= 2070 ÷ 2
= $1035

1 set of Tim's salary = $610

Difference between each set of Ethan's and Tim's salaries
= 1035 - 610
= $425

Number of days in 1 set
= 425 ÷ 25
= 17

Number of days that Ethan worked
= 2 x 17
= 34
