Will and Andy were paid a total of $1980 for a job they did. Andy was paid $1400 less than Will.

1. How much was Andy paid for the job?
2. Will and Andy were paid based on the number of days they worked. Will worked 5 times as many days as Andy. Will was paid $8 more than Andy per day. How many days did Will work?

Amount that Andy was paid = 1 u
Amount that Will was paid = 1 u + 1400

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1400
= 2 u + 1400

2 u + 1400 = 1980
2 u = 1980 - 1400
2 u = 580

1 u = 580 ÷ 2 = 290

Amount that Andy was paid
= 1 u
= $290

(b)
Amount that Will was paid
= 1 u + 1400
= 290 + 1400
= $1690

Will worked 5 times as many days as Andy.

5 sets of Will's salary = $1690

1 set of Will's salary
= 1690 ÷ 5
= $338

1 set of Andy's salary = $290

Difference between each set of Will's and Andy's salaries
= 338 - 290
= $48

Number of days in 1 set
= 48 ÷ 8
= 6

Number of days that Will worked
= 5 x 6
= 30
