Paul and Jack were paid a total of $3750 for a job they did. Paul was paid $1330 more than Jack.

1. How much was Jack paid for the job?
2. Paul and Jack were paid based on the number of days they worked. Paul worked 2 times as many days as Jack. Jack was paid $12 less than Paul per day. How many days did Paul work?

Amount that Jack was paid = 1 u
Amount that Paul was paid = 1 u + 1330

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1330
= 2 u + 1330

2 u + 1330 = 3750
2 u = 3750 - 1330
2 u = 2420

1 u = 2420 ÷ 2 = 1210

Amount that Jack was paid
= 1 u
= $1210

(b)
Amount that Paul was paid
= 1 u + 1330
= 1210 + 1330
= $2540

Paul worked 2 times as many days as Jack.

2 sets of Paul's salary = $2540

1 set of Paul's salary
= 2540 ÷ 2
= $1270

1 set of Jack's salary = $1210

Difference between each set of Paul's and Jack's salaries
= 1270 - 1210
= $60

Number of days in 1 set
= 60 ÷ 12
= 5

Number of days that Paul worked
= 2 x 5
= 10
