Harry and Michael were paid a total of $2160 for a job they did. Harry was paid $1360 more than Michael.

1. How much was Michael paid for the job?
2. Harry and Michael were paid based on the number of days they worked. Harry worked 4 times as many days as Michael. Michael was paid $4 less than Harry per day. How many days did Harry work?

Amount that Michael was paid = 1 u
Amount that Harry was paid = 1 u + 1360

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1360
= 2 u + 1360

2 u + 1360 = 2160
2 u = 2160 - 1360
2 u = 800

1 u = 800 ÷ 2 = 400

Amount that Michael was paid
= 1 u
= $400

(b)
Amount that Harry was paid
= 1 u + 1360
= 400 + 1360
= $1760

Harry worked 4 times as many days as Michael.

4 sets of Harry's salary = $1760

1 set of Harry's salary
= 1760 ÷ 4
= $440

1 set of Michael's salary = $400

Difference between each set of Harry's and Michael's salaries
= 440 - 400
= $40

Number of days in 1 set
= 40 ÷ 4
= 10

Number of days that Harry worked
= 4 x 10
= 40
