Simon and Rael were paid a total of $2340 for a job they did. Rael was paid $1760 less than Simon.

1. How much was Rael paid for the job?
2. Simon and Rael were paid based on the number of days they worked. Simon worked 5 times as many days as Rael. Simon was paid $8 more than Rael per day. How many days did Simon work?

Amount that Rael was paid = 1 u
Amount that Simon was paid = 1 u + 1760

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1760
= 2 u + 1760

2 u + 1760 = 2340
2 u = 2340 - 1760
2 u = 580

1 u = 580 ÷ 2 = 290

Amount that Rael was paid
= 1 u
= $290

(b)
Amount that Simon was paid
= 1 u + 1760
= 290 + 1760
= $2050

Simon worked 5 times as many days as Rael.

5 sets of Simon's salary = $2050

1 set of Simon's salary
= 2050 ÷ 5
= $410

1 set of Rael's salary = $290

Difference between each set of Simon's and Rael's salaries
= 410 - 290
= $120

Number of days in 1 set
= 120 ÷ 8
= 15

Number of days that Simon worked
= 5 x 15
= 75
