Paul and Cody were paid a total of $2690 for a job they did. Paul was paid $1820 more than Cody.

1. How much was Cody paid for the job?
2. Paul and Cody were paid based on the number of days they worked. Paul worked 5 times as many days as Cody. Cody was paid $4 less than Paul per day. How many days did Paul work?

Amount that Cody was paid = 1 u
Amount that Paul was paid = 1 u + 1820

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1820
= 2 u + 1820

2 u + 1820 = 2690
2 u = 2690 - 1820
2 u = 870

1 u = 870 ÷ 2 = 435

Amount that Cody was paid
= 1 u
= $435

(b)
Amount that Paul was paid
= 1 u + 1820
= 435 + 1820
= $2255

Paul worked 5 times as many days as Cody.

5 sets of Paul's salary = $2255

1 set of Paul's salary
= 2255 ÷ 5
= $451

1 set of Cody's salary = $435

Difference between each set of Paul's and Cody's salaries
= 451 - 435
= $16

Number of days in 1 set
= 16 ÷ 4
= 4

Number of days that Paul worked
= 5 x 4
= 20
