Tommy and Asher were paid a total of $3880 for a job they did. Asher was paid $1560 less than Tommy.

1. How much was Asher paid for the job?
2. Tommy and Asher were paid based on the number of days they worked. Tommy worked 2 times as many days as Asher. Tommy was paid $20 more than Asher per day. How many days did Tommy work?

Amount that Asher was paid = 1 u
Amount that Tommy was paid = 1 u + 1560

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1560
= 2 u + 1560

2 u + 1560 = 3880
2 u = 3880 - 1560
2 u = 2320

1 u = 2320 ÷ 2 = 1160

Amount that Asher was paid
= 1 u
= $1160

(b)
Amount that Tommy was paid
= 1 u + 1560
= 1160 + 1560
= $2720

Tommy worked 2 times as many days as Asher.

2 sets of Tommy's salary = $2720

1 set of Tommy's salary
= 2720 ÷ 2
= $1360

1 set of Asher's salary = $1160

Difference between each set of Tommy's and Asher's salaries
= 1360 - 1160
= $200

Number of days in 1 set
= 200 ÷ 20
= 10

Number of days that Tommy worked
= 2 x 10
= 20
