Glen and Luis were paid a total of $1840 for a job they did. Glen was paid $1200 more than Luis.

1. How much was Luis paid for the job?
2. Glen and Luis were paid based on the number of days they worked. Glen worked 4 times as many days as Luis. Luis was paid $15 less than Glen per day. How many days did Glen work?

Amount that Luis was paid = 1 u
Amount that Glen was paid = 1 u + 1200

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1200
= 2 u + 1200

2 u + 1200 = 1840
2 u = 1840 - 1200
2 u = 640

1 u = 640 ÷ 2 = 320

Amount that Luis was paid
= 1 u
= $320

(b)
Amount that Glen was paid
= 1 u + 1200
= 320 + 1200
= $1520

Glen worked 4 times as many days as Luis.

4 sets of Glen's salary = $1520

1 set of Glen's salary
= 1520 ÷ 4
= $380

1 set of Luis's salary = $320

Difference between each set of Glen's and Luis's salaries
= 380 - 320
= $60

Number of days in 1 set
= 60 ÷ 15
= 4

Number of days that Glen worked
= 4 x 4
= 16
