Harry and Pierre were paid a total of $2600 for a job they did. Harry was paid $1450 more than Pierre.

1. How much was Pierre paid for the job?
2. Harry and Pierre were paid based on the number of days they worked. Harry worked 3 times as many days as Pierre. Pierre was paid $20 less than Harry per day. How many days did Harry work?

Amount that Pierre was paid = 1 u
Amount that Harry was paid = 1 u + 1450

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1450
= 2 u + 1450

2 u + 1450 = 2600
2 u = 2600 - 1450
2 u = 1150

1 u = 1150 ÷ 2 = 575

Amount that Pierre was paid
= 1 u
= $575

(b)
Amount that Harry was paid
= 1 u + 1450
= 575 + 1450
= $2025

Harry worked 3 times as many days as Pierre.

3 sets of Harry's salary = $2025

1 set of Harry's salary
= 2025 ÷ 3
= $675

1 set of Pierre's salary = $575

Difference between each set of Harry's and Pierre's salaries
= 675 - 575
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 20
= 5

Number of days that Harry worked
= 3 x 5
= 15
