Cole and Dylan were paid a total of $2020 for a job they did. Cole was paid $1240 more than Dylan.

1. How much was Dylan paid for the job?
2. Cole and Dylan were paid based on the number of days they worked. Cole worked 2 times as many days as Dylan. Dylan was paid $25 less than Cole per day. How many days did Cole work?

Amount that Dylan was paid = 1 u
Amount that Cole was paid = 1 u + 1240

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1240
= 2 u + 1240

2 u + 1240 = 2020
2 u = 2020 - 1240
2 u = 780

1 u = 780 ÷ 2 = 390

Amount that Dylan was paid
= 1 u
= $390

(b)
Amount that Cole was paid
= 1 u + 1240
= 390 + 1240
= $1630

Cole worked 2 times as many days as Dylan.

2 sets of Cole's salary = $1630

1 set of Cole's salary
= 1630 ÷ 2
= $815

1 set of Dylan's salary = $390

Difference between each set of Cole's and Dylan's salaries
= 815 - 390
= $425

Number of days in 1 set
= 425 ÷ 25
= 17

Number of days that Cole worked
= 2 x 17
= 34
