Peter and Eric were paid a total of $1730 for a job they did. Eric was paid $1280 less than Peter.

1. How much was Eric paid for the job?
2. Peter and Eric were paid based on the number of days they worked. Peter worked 5 times as many days as Eric. Peter was paid $4 more than Eric per day. How many days did Peter work?

Amount that Eric was paid = 1 u
Amount that Peter was paid = 1 u + 1280

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1280
= 2 u + 1280

2 u + 1280 = 1730
2 u = 1730 - 1280
2 u = 450

1 u = 450 ÷ 2 = 225

Amount that Eric was paid
= 1 u
= $225

(b)
Amount that Peter was paid
= 1 u + 1280
= 225 + 1280
= $1505

Peter worked 5 times as many days as Eric.

5 sets of Peter's salary = $1505

1 set of Peter's salary
= 1505 ÷ 5
= $301

1 set of Eric's salary = $225

Difference between each set of Peter's and Eric's salaries
= 301 - 225
= $76

Number of days in 1 set
= 76 ÷ 4
= 19

Number of days that Peter worked
= 5 x 19
= 95
