Ryan and Liam were paid a total of $2230 for a job they did. Liam was paid $1010 less than Ryan.

1. How much was Liam paid for the job?
2. Ryan and Liam were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ryan worked 2 times as many days as Liam. Ryan was paid $20 more than Liam per day. How many days did Ryan work?

Amount that Liam was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ryan was paid = 1 u + 1010

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1010
= 2 u + 1010

2 u + 1010 = 2230
2 u = 2230 - 1010
2 u = 1220

1 u = 1220 ÷ 2 = 610

Amount that Liam was paid
= 1 u
= $610

(b)
Amount that Ryan was paid
= 1 u + 1010
= 610 + 1010
= $1620

Ryan worked 2 times as many days as Liam.

2 sets of Ryan's salary = $1620

1 set of Ryan's salary
= 1620 ÷ 2
= $810

1 set of Liam's salary = $610

Difference between each set of Ryan's and Liam's salaries
= 810 - 610
= $200

Number of days in 1 set
= 200 ÷ 20
= 10

Number of days that Ryan worked
= 2 x 10
= 20
