Rael and Charlie were paid a total of $1500 for a job they did. Rael was paid $1140 more than Charlie.

1. How much was Charlie paid for the job?
2. Rael and Charlie were paid based on the number of days they worked. Rael worked 4 times as many days as Charlie. Charlie was paid $10 less than Rael per day. How many days did Rael work?

Amount that Charlie was paid = 1 u
Amount that Rael was paid = 1 u + 1140

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1140
= 2 u + 1140

2 u + 1140 = 1500
2 u = 1500 - 1140
2 u = 360

1 u = 360 ÷ 2 = 180

Amount that Charlie was paid
= 1 u
= $180

(b)
Amount that Rael was paid
= 1 u + 1140
= 180 + 1140
= $1320

Rael worked 4 times as many days as Charlie.

4 sets of Rael's salary = $1320

1 set of Rael's salary
= 1320 ÷ 4
= $330

1 set of Charlie's salary = $180

Difference between each set of Rael's and Charlie's salaries
= 330 - 180
= $150

Number of days in 1 set
= 150 ÷ 10
= 15

Number of days that Rael worked
= 4 x 15
= 60
