Nick and Charlie were paid a total of $4650 for a job they did. Charlie was paid $1590 less than Nick.

1. How much was Charlie paid for the job?
2. Nick and Charlie were paid based on the number of days they worked. Nick worked 2 times as many days as Charlie. Nick was paid $15 more than Charlie per day. How many days did Nick work?

Amount that Charlie was paid = 1 u
Amount that Nick was paid = 1 u + 1590

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1590
= 2 u + 1590

2 u + 1590 = 4650
2 u = 4650 - 1590
2 u = 3060

1 u = 3060 ÷ 2 = 1530

Amount that Charlie was paid
= 1 u
= $1530

(b)
Amount that Nick was paid
= 1 u + 1590
= 1530 + 1590
= $3120

Nick worked 2 times as many days as Charlie.

2 sets of Nick's salary = $3120

1 set of Nick's salary
= 3120 ÷ 2
= $1560

1 set of Charlie's salary = $1530

Difference between each set of Nick's and Charlie's salaries
= 1560 - 1530
= $30

Number of days in 1 set
= 30 ÷ 15
= 2

Number of days that Nick worked
= 2 x 2
= 4
