Andy and Mark were paid a total of $2660 for a job they did. Andy was paid $980 more than Mark.

1. How much was Mark paid for the job?
2. Andy and Mark were paid based on the number of days they worked. Andy worked 2 times as many days as Mark. Mark was paid $10 less than Andy per day. How many days did Andy work?

Amount that Mark was paid = 1 u
Amount that Andy was paid = 1 u + 980

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 980
= 2 u + 980

2 u + 980 = 2660
2 u = 2660 - 980
2 u = 1680

1 u = 1680 ÷ 2 = 840

Amount that Mark was paid
= 1 u
= $840

(b)
Amount that Andy was paid
= 1 u + 980
= 840 + 980
= $1820

Andy worked 2 times as many days as Mark.

2 sets of Andy's salary = $1820

1 set of Andy's salary
= 1820 ÷ 2
= $910

1 set of Mark's salary = $840

Difference between each set of Andy's and Mark's salaries
= 910 - 840
= $70

Number of days in 1 set
= 70 ÷ 10
= 7

Number of days that Andy worked
= 2 x 7
= 14
