Ryan and Brandon were paid a total of $2520 for a job they did. Brandon was paid $1560 less than Ryan.

1. How much was Brandon paid for the job?
2. Ryan and Brandon were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ryan worked 4 times as many days as Brandon. Ryan was paid $5 more than Brandon per day. How many days did Ryan work?

Amount that Brandon was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ryan was paid = 1 u + 1560

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1560
= 2 u + 1560

2 u + 1560 = 2520
2 u = 2520 - 1560
2 u = 960

1 u = 960 ÷ 2 = 480

Amount that Brandon was paid
= 1 u
= $480

(b)
Amount that Ryan was paid
= 1 u + 1560
= 480 + 1560
= $2040

Ryan worked 4 times as many days as Brandon.

4 sets of Ryan's salary = $2040

1 set of Ryan's salary
= 2040 ÷ 4
= $510

1 set of Brandon's salary = $480

Difference between each set of Ryan's and Brandon's salaries
= 510 - 480
= $30

Number of days in 1 set
= 30 ÷ 5
= 6

Number of days that Ryan worked
= 4 x 6
= 24
