Elijah and Billy were paid a total of $1590 for a job they did. Elijah was paid $1160 more than Billy.

1. How much was Billy paid for the job?
2. Elijah and Billy were paid based on the number of days they worked. Elijah worked 5 times as many days as Billy. Billy was paid $4 less than Elijah per day. How many days did Elijah work?

Amount that Billy was paid = 1 u
Amount that Elijah was paid = 1 u + 1160

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1160
= 2 u + 1160

2 u + 1160 = 1590
2 u = 1590 - 1160
2 u = 430

1 u = 430 ÷ 2 = 215

Amount that Billy was paid
= 1 u
= $215

(b)
Amount that Elijah was paid
= 1 u + 1160
= 215 + 1160
= $1375

Elijah worked 5 times as many days as Billy.

5 sets of Elijah's salary = $1375

1 set of Elijah's salary
= 1375 ÷ 5
= $275

1 set of Billy's salary = $215

Difference between each set of Elijah's and Billy's salaries
= 275 - 215
= $60

Number of days in 1 set
= 60 ÷ 4
= 15

Number of days that Elijah worked
= 5 x 15
= 75
