Albert and Andy were paid a total of $2850 for a job they did. Albert was paid $1590 more than Andy.

1. How much was Andy paid for the job?
2. Albert and Andy were paid based on the number of days they worked. Albert worked 3 times as many days as Andy. Andy was paid $10 less than Albert per day. How many days did Albert work?

Amount that Andy was paid = 1 u
Amount that Albert was paid = 1 u + 1590

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1590
= 2 u + 1590

2 u + 1590 = 2850
2 u = 2850 - 1590
2 u = 1260

1 u = 1260 ÷ 2 = 630

Amount that Andy was paid
= 1 u
= $630

(b)
Amount that Albert was paid
= 1 u + 1590
= 630 + 1590
= $2220

Albert worked 3 times as many days as Andy.

3 sets of Albert's salary = $2220

1 set of Albert's salary
= 2220 ÷ 3
= $740

1 set of Andy's salary = $630

Difference between each set of Albert's and Andy's salaries
= 740 - 630
= $110

Number of days in 1 set
= 110 ÷ 10
= 11

Number of days that Albert worked
= 3 x 11
= 33
