Archie and Gabriel were paid a total of $2900 for a job they did. Archie was paid $1300 more than Gabriel.

1. How much was Gabriel paid for the job?
2. Archie and Gabriel were paid based on the number of days they worked. Archie worked 2 times as many days as Gabriel. Gabriel was paid $25 less than Archie per day. How many days did Archie work?

Amount that Gabriel was paid = 1 u
Amount that Archie was paid = 1 u + 1300

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1300
= 2 u + 1300

2 u + 1300 = 2900
2 u = 2900 - 1300
2 u = 1600

1 u = 1600 ÷ 2 = 800

Amount that Gabriel was paid
= 1 u
= $800

(b)
Amount that Archie was paid
= 1 u + 1300
= 800 + 1300
= $2100

Archie worked 2 times as many days as Gabriel.

2 sets of Archie's salary = $2100

1 set of Archie's salary
= 2100 ÷ 2
= $1050

1 set of Gabriel's salary = $800

Difference between each set of Archie's and Gabriel's salaries
= 1050 - 800
= $250

Number of days in 1 set
= 250 ÷ 25
= 10

Number of days that Archie worked
= 2 x 10
= 20
