Pierre and Bobby were paid a total of $3890 for a job they did. Bobby was paid $1730 less than Pierre.

1. How much was Bobby paid for the job?
2. Pierre and Bobby were paid based on the number of days they worked. Pierre worked 2 times as many days as Bobby. Pierre was paid $25 more than Bobby per day. How many days did Pierre work?

Amount that Bobby was paid = 1 u
Amount that Pierre was paid = 1 u + 1730

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1730
= 2 u + 1730

2 u + 1730 = 3890
2 u = 3890 - 1730
2 u = 2160

1 u = 2160 ÷ 2 = 1080

Amount that Bobby was paid
= 1 u
= $1080

(b)
Amount that Pierre was paid
= 1 u + 1730
= 1080 + 1730
= $2810

Pierre worked 2 times as many days as Bobby.

2 sets of Pierre's salary = $2810

1 set of Pierre's salary
= 2810 ÷ 2
= $1405

1 set of Bobby's salary = $1080

Difference between each set of Pierre's and Bobby's salaries
= 1405 - 1080
= $325

Number of days in 1 set
= 325 ÷ 25
= 13

Number of days that Pierre worked
= 2 x 13
= 26
