Ahmad and Fred were paid a total of $2190 for a job they did. Fred was paid $810 less than Ahmad.

1. How much was Fred paid for the job?
2. Ahmad and Fred were paid based on the number of days they worked. Ahmad worked 2 times as many days as Fred. Ahmad was paid $20 more than Fred per day. How many days did Ahmad work?

Amount that Fred was paid = 1 u
Amount that Ahmad was paid = 1 u + 810

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 810
= 2 u + 810

2 u + 810 = 2190
2 u = 2190 - 810
2 u = 1380

1 u = 1380 ÷ 2 = 690

Amount that Fred was paid
= 1 u
= $690

(b)
Amount that Ahmad was paid
= 1 u + 810
= 690 + 810
= $1500

Ahmad worked 2 times as many days as Fred.

2 sets of Ahmad's salary = $1500

1 set of Ahmad's salary
= 1500 ÷ 2
= $750

1 set of Fred's salary = $690

Difference between each set of Ahmad's and Fred's salaries
= 750 - 690
= $60

Number of days in 1 set
= 60 ÷ 20
= 3

Number of days that Ahmad worked
= 2 x 3
= 6
