Simon and Gabriel were paid a total of $4320 for a job they did. Gabriel was paid $1780 less than Simon.

1. How much was Gabriel paid for the job?
2. Simon and Gabriel were paid based on the number of days they worked. Simon worked 2 times as many days as Gabriel. Simon was paid $15 more than Gabriel per day. How many days did Simon work?

Amount that Gabriel was paid = 1 u
Amount that Simon was paid = 1 u + 1780

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1780
= 2 u + 1780

2 u + 1780 = 4320
2 u = 4320 - 1780
2 u = 2540

1 u = 2540 ÷ 2 = 1270

Amount that Gabriel was paid
= 1 u
= $1270

(b)
Amount that Simon was paid
= 1 u + 1780
= 1270 + 1780
= $3050

Simon worked 2 times as many days as Gabriel.

2 sets of Simon's salary = $3050

1 set of Simon's salary
= 3050 ÷ 2
= $1525

1 set of Gabriel's salary = $1270

Difference between each set of Simon's and Gabriel's salaries
= 1525 - 1270
= $255

Number of days in 1 set
= 255 ÷ 15
= 17

Number of days that Simon worked
= 2 x 17
= 34
