Sam and Vaidev were paid a total of $2600 for a job they did. Vaidev was paid $1540 less than Sam.

1. How much was Vaidev paid for the job?
2. Sam and Vaidev were paid based on the number of days they worked. Sam worked 3 times as many days as Vaidev. Sam was paid $8 more than Vaidev per day. How many days did Sam work?

Amount that Vaidev was paid = 1 u
Amount that Sam was paid = 1 u + 1540

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1540
= 2 u + 1540

2 u + 1540 = 2600
2 u = 2600 - 1540
2 u = 1060

1 u = 1060 ÷ 2 = 530

Amount that Vaidev was paid
= 1 u
= $530

(b)
Amount that Sam was paid
= 1 u + 1540
= 530 + 1540
= $2070

Sam worked 3 times as many days as Vaidev.

3 sets of Sam's salary = $2070

1 set of Sam's salary
= 2070 ÷ 3
= $690

1 set of Vaidev's salary = $530

Difference between each set of Sam's and Vaidev's salaries
= 690 - 530
= $160

Number of days in 1 set
= 160 ÷ 8
= 20

Number of days that Sam worked
= 3 x 20
= 60
