Zeph and Elijah were paid a total of $1850 for a job they did. Zeph was paid $1260 more than Elijah.

1. How much was Elijah paid for the job?
2. Zeph and Elijah were paid based on the number of days they worked. Zeph worked 5 times as many days as Elijah. Elijah was paid $8 less than Zeph per day. How many days did Zeph work?

Amount that Elijah was paid = 1 u
Amount that Zeph was paid = 1 u + 1260

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1260
= 2 u + 1260

2 u + 1260 = 1850
2 u = 1850 - 1260
2 u = 590

1 u = 590 ÷ 2 = 295

Amount that Elijah was paid
= 1 u
= $295

(b)
Amount that Zeph was paid
= 1 u + 1260
= 295 + 1260
= $1555

Zeph worked 5 times as many days as Elijah.

5 sets of Zeph's salary = $1555

1 set of Zeph's salary
= 1555 ÷ 5
= $311

1 set of Elijah's salary = $295

Difference between each set of Zeph's and Elijah's salaries
= 311 - 295
= $16

Number of days in 1 set
= 16 ÷ 8
= 2

Number of days that Zeph worked
= 5 x 2
= 10
