Will and Bobby were paid a total of $2860 for a job they did. Bobby was paid $1580 less than Will.

1. How much was Bobby paid for the job?
2. Will and Bobby were paid based on the number of days they worked. Will worked 3 times as many days as Bobby. Will was paid $25 more than Bobby per day. How many days did Will work?

Amount that Bobby was paid = 1 u
Amount that Will was paid = 1 u + 1580

Total amount paid
= 1 u + 1 u + 1580
= 2 u + 1580

2 u + 1580 = 2860
2 u = 2860 - 1580
2 u = 1280

1 u = 1280 ÷ 2 = 640

Amount that Bobby was paid
= 1 u
= $640

(b)
Amount that Will was paid
= 1 u + 1580
= 640 + 1580
= $2220

Will worked 3 times as many days as Bobby.

3 sets of Will's salary = $2220

1 set of Will's salary
= 2220 ÷ 3
= $740

1 set of Bobby's salary = $640

Difference between each set of Will's and Bobby's salaries
= 740 - 640
= $100

Number of days in 1 set
= 100 ÷ 25
= 4

Number of days that Will worked
= 3 x 4
= 12
